WHAT
IS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY?
Habitat for
Humanity is unashamedly a Christian organization that seeks to put decent
shelter on the hearts and minds of people everywhere. Habitat supporters believe
that substandard housing and homelessness are politically, socially, and morally
unacceptable. People, Christian and non-Christian alike, who are disturbed by
this injustice and want to alleviate the housing crisis are invited to join in
the work and ministry of Habitat.
HOW
DOES HABITAT REALLY WORK?
Using donations
to purchase the materials, Habitat with the help of individuals, churches,
businesses, civic groups, local government agencies, etc. partners with
low-income families that are in need of safe, decent shelter to build homes
which are then sold with no-interest mortgages for 20 to 25 years to the
low-income families.
HOW
CAN I HELP?
The elimination
of substandard housing and homelessness is a mighty mountain for Habitat for
Humanity to move. We need your partnership and the partnership of every city,
town, and village on earth to accomplish this task. Habitat asks people from all
walks of life - young and old, skilled and willing-to-learn, rich and poor - to
join in this mountain-moving venture. Become personally involved by
volunteering your time and skills and by giving of your own financial resources.
Get others involved through your church, your business, and/or your civic
associations. Help us build a strong TEAM -- Together Everyone Accomplishes
More.
PUTTING YOUR
FAITH INTO ACTION
Habitat’s ministry is based on the conviction that
Christian discipleship must be lived out in practical ways that manifest the
love of Jesus Christ. Christ’s love for us is demonstrated by the ways we love
and care for one another. 1 John
3:18
tells us that “Our love must not be just words; it must be true love which shows
itself in action.” Habitat brings people from all walks of life together to put
their faith into action by making affordable housing and better communities a
reality for everyone.
